For the blackberries have ripened;
I’ve torn the hair from the wind,
And drowned the gales in the lake.
I’ve painted half the mountain,
The lightning bolts have gone into hiding;
The tender landscape
Waits to emerge from its crevices!
But come, you half-moon,
Just as you came to me in verses last night;
The forest has stolen my tongue,
Yet love is rising like dough in the kneading trough…
And two birds, locked in an embrace,
Right at the corner of a smile—
I know not how I drew them,
Just so… with the corner of my eye!
But come, oh come tonight,
Softly, without the noise of the world;
The spite that used to trouble you
Has driven me out of my mind!
